Sans bon sang

Our first red, with the oldest of the old, Pinot Noir – or should we say: the MOTHER of all vines, from which almost all Vitis vinifera varieties are derived?

Sans bon sang is a reminder of the place of women in the viticultural and winemaking world. A reminder that symbolic representations are still often associated with women in the world of wine. “Not long ago, wine was the exclusive domain of men. While women could drink and appreciate wine, it seemed contrary to custom for them to handle it, especially by uncorking bottles or serving it at the table” (Testart). One example among many: male winemakers feared, and some still fear, menstruation lest this “impure blood” turn the wine in the barrel, the blood of the vine! This cuvée is a sororal celebration. Let's celebrate the analogy between the shape of our endometrium and that of a wine bottle. With each cluster and with each bottle, let's create wines that honor those who trod the grapes before us and open the fields/cellars to those who come next. May our professions never be questioned by deviant symbolic good practices. Because still too often, women do not have their rightful place in the wine world.

It is a delicate blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Frontenac Gris. A red of a very soft color that makes us want to take another sip.

Vintage: 2024

Grapes: Blend of Frontenac Gris, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Gris.

Plantation: Pinot Noir (2021), Pinot Gris (2021), and Frontenac Gris (2019).

Vinification: 6-day carbonic maceration on half of the Pinot Noir, 5-7 day skin maceration, aging in demi-muid.

10-day skin maceration on Pinot Gris, aging in neutral oak barrels.

10-day carbonic maceration on Frontenac Gris, pressing, re-infusion of Gewurztraminer skins on the pressed juices, aging in demi-muid, under flor.

No added sulfites

Aging: 7 months in 500L demi-muid and neutral oak barrels.
